Personality:
Chyler has an abiding loyalty to her fellow cadets, their leadership, and to the UNSC. The best example of this attachment is her relationship with Tom Lasky, someone who stands in opposition to most of her beliefs. She still sees something good in him, encourages him, and tries to push him to be the best soldier he can be in spite of his not being sure he wants to be there. She stands by him when their fellow cadets are ready to cast him off for being a fuckup, a pacifist, and a weakling. Once she decides she's in your corner, she doesn't move, no matter what the odds are or how unpopular her position might be.

She grew up on a colony embroiled in Insurrectionist violence, where her brother and cousin were presumably killed. Her parents also later died in combat against Rebels. In spite of this, or because of it, Chyler threw herself into military training. She's the top of her class at the Academy, and has a whole speech about the value of determination and perseverance. When she commits to something, she is in it 100%. Whether it's her classes, her hatred of Insurrectionists, or her friendships.

As evidenced by her position at the top of her class, she's got a strategic mind and a willingness to adapt--to plans that make sense. At one point, during a class on strategy, she's the only one of her class who can name the practical applications of the lesson and the modern equivalent of the ancient military forces in play. She's also the first (and only) cadet to use the invader's weapons against them during the attack on Corbulo.

The flipside of her determination is the degree of focus she can put on a single set of objectives. Her willingness to follow orders is ideal for a soldier, but not ideal for her personal survival or necessarily her advancement as an officer. In spite of her ability to adapt, she values chain of command and unit cohesion over individual action. She can lose track of the bigger picture in her dedication to cause, honor, or training.

She hates the idea of failure. Her last words to her squadmate are "I'm sorry," for leaving him, for failing her team through death. She didn't make it to their evac point; she failed their mission. All she has, with her family gone, is the military, and to fail them is worse than death. Her determination and her monofocus come together in a cocktail of self-flagellation at the concept of being even second best. She will excel, she will be the best soldier it's possible for her to be, and to fail in that mission is unacceptable.

Once she's made up her mind about something, that's the way it is, no matter the arguments brought against her. In spite of Lasky's attempts to get her to see the Insurrectionists as human, with human concerns and reasons for acting the way they do, she sees monsters who attack innocents without cause. It isn't until she's confronted with direct evidence of Insurrectionists and Marines working together that she has any reason to question her own beliefs. Even then, she has an intensely difficult time dealing with the idea that the Insurrectionists would be willing to work with anyone. It drives her half-crazy with confusion for the short time between that revelation and the attack on Corbulo.

Inventory: Clothing, her Corbulo Academy standard issue body armor, empty MA5D ICWS assault rifle, Type-51 Covenant Carbine with three shots.

Abilities: Chyler is a Freshman Cadet at the Corbulo Academy of Military Science. In addition to basic fitness, military courtesies, and hand-to-hand combat, Chyler and her squadmates are regular participants in combat exercises held against rival squads. They were also expected to excel at target practice and general academics, including basic lessons in tactics and strategy. Beyond what she's learned at Corbulo, Chyler was raised in a war zone. Her mother taught her to use a rifle when she was ten, and it's implied in a deleted scene that she was familiar with handguns and gun safety at an even earlier age.

Flaws: Violent, stubborn, and more than willing to kill those she's labeled the enemy.
